ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Tirap continues to burn as the Naga ultras prolonged battle to take control of the district is intensifying by the day.
One cadre of NSCN (K) is reported dead after a gunfight yesterday in Khonsa village, just outskirts of the district headquarters. The cadre killed is reported to be from Longphong village under Longding circle.
There are unconfirmed reports that two members of the NSCN (IM) were also killed after exchange of bullets.
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission School for girls, Khonsa is near the village and according to a Govt official; the intensity of the crossfire was such that splinters were seen just outside the school compound.
Today, the ultras went a step further and forced the whole market area to shut down and government establishment to close its offices.
The district administration denies that ultras have overrun the township.
The administration, which has been very ineffective in handling the crisis of the district, is slated to meet on Tuesday to chalk out ways to tackle the problem.
After yesterday’s gun battle, the Arunachal Pradesh Police and Security forces conducted a combing operation but it seems to have had a little impact to boast morale of the people as parallel administration being run by the Naga Ultras appears more effective.
Since November, the groups have come out in open despite the presence of Assam Rifles, CRPF and APP.
Khonsa is an important area for both factions of NSCN as they indulge in heavy extortion in the area. Command over the area means greater financial rewards for the factions who have been blatantly indulged in drug peddling and day light extortion.
The violence since Jan 15, in which members from both factions were killed as they engaged in bloody fight to take control of Khonsa town, has escalated.
On the other hand, the state government seems to have literally closed it’s eyes to the problems confronting the district, as it is yet to come up with any tangible policy to counter terrorism in the district.

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: A conference of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Ministers and Secretaries of North East and Eastern States held at Kolkota today.
Participating in the conference Arunachal Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Tanga Byaling appealed the government of India to enhance the allotment of Rice from 5005 MT to 8911 MT and for augmentation of storage capacity by constructing additional Godowns for PDS items in the state.
The minister said that a regular FCI general manager should be posted at Itanagar or the DGM should be conferred with more power to act independently. Especial allocation of rice for the state to be specified with pick up points and the FCI should ensure that specific Wagon are earmarked for smooth transportation of food grains in Arunachal Pradesh, he said. He, however, appreciated the Union Minister of State, Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Prof. K V Thomas for conducting such meeting of public importance on Zonal basis and expressed his gratitude to the union minister of state for emphasizing to introduce special package for north eastern states.
Food and civil supplies Secretary K Kholie, Food and Civil Supply Director Sadhana Deori, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Kolkota, Bijoy Talukdar, representatives of Food Corporation of India and Railways have also attended the conference.

Associations condemn assault on engineer, demand arrest of assaulter within 7 days
ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Arunachal Pradesh Engineering Service Association (APESA), Arunachal Pradesh Public Works Department Engineers Association (APPEA), Arunachal Pradesh Junior Engineers Welfare Association (APJEWA) and Arunachal Pradesh Tribal Junior Engineers Service Association (APTJESA) have strongly condemned the physical assault on K S Nair, junior engineer PWD allegedly by Takam Tagar. In a complaint letter to the Chief Secretary, the associations said that Tagar has attacked Nair who was on duty at site of ongoing construction of assembly building on 13th February without any valid reason. Currently M/s Reniya Enterprise of which Takam Tagar is the proprietor is undertaking construction of assembly building in Itanagar.
In this regard an FIR has been lodged against him in the Itanagar police station but associations claimed that till now no arrest has been made by the authorities. When contacted Itanagar police station confirmed that an FIR has been lodged in this connection.
Taking serious exception of such dastardly act by an elected representative, the conglomeration of engineer’s associations demanded immediate arrest of attacker for obstructing the government officials from performing his government duties and also causing grievous injuries.
The associations have given seven days ultimatum to the authorities to arrest the attacker and also decided that no officials of department will perform government duties at the assembly building construction site till the demand of association is fulfilled and sought banning of M/s Reniya Enterprise from carrying out any kind of work in state, failing which, the engineer fraternities have threatened to launch democratic movement across the state on the expiry of the deadline given to the government.
NF Rly team inspects ongoing rail projects
ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu, S Kanojia, deputy CE, NF railway, A K Sharma, EE NF Railway, Bengia Nighee, EAC Doimukh and Techi Hitlar, LRSO today inspected construction site of BG railway line from Gumto to Naharlagun to assess the work progress in ground level. During the visit railway authority apprised DC of various problems faced by them from the affected land owners in execution of their work. DC Papum Pare while assuring the railway officials to amicably sort out the matter, directed EAC Doimukh to immediately serve eviction notices to the affected land owners to vacate acquired plot within 20 days for which they have already been paid compensation. He also warned that anybody trying to stop ongoing construction of railway work will be dealt strictly as per the provision of law. He also requested people to cooperate for smooth execution of rail project.

JAIRAMPUR, Feb 14: The second match in the ongoing Changlang District Night T20 cricket tournament was played between Kharsang and Manmao yesterday.
After winning the toss Manmao put Kharsang to bat first and they scored 115 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Chasing comparatively a smaller score, Manmao lost its first wicket in very first ball and four of the top batsmen returned back to pavilion in just 46 runs on board. Crucial 28 runs scored at the end by Remwang ensured three wicket victory for Manmao team in the last over . Remwang was declared Man of the Match.

Outreach health camps benefit many
ROING, Feb 14: The five-
The main motto behind organizing such Outreach Health Camps was to bring the medical facilities to the door step of the people, informed Dr M Basar, DRCHO Roing.
During the camps, free check ups to women, children and disabled persons were conducted. Also Advocacy meeting in schools on Reproductive Tract Infection/Sexually Transmitted Infection to the students, Inter Personal Communication through Focal Group Discussion on early breast feeding with emphasis on hospital delivery besides Reproductive & Child Health Camps were held at various villages and schools.
Cultural Programmes were also conducted to illustrate the advantage of small family through folk songs and play dramas.
Altogether, 671 patients besides 32 disabled persons and 62 women were examined, informed Dr Basar. He further informed that such camps were earlier organized at Bolung and Hunli area and would soon cover Bismaknagar, Iduli, Koronu and other uncovered pockets of the district. The department is planning to make it an annual programme, he further informed.

Wildlife committee formed
ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Wild Life Committee has been formed at Seba village under East Kameng district to safeguard the ancestral land of the area. In a meeting held today which was attended by MLA Tani Loffa, ZPM Apang Welly, DC East Kameng and villagers of the area, this committee was formed. BJP’s concern for Khandu’s stability unfortunate
Dear Editor,
Had the BJP’s state unit know the magnitude of kickbacks and corrupt practices involved in so called much awaited good infrastructures such as CM’s Bungalow, Civil and Assembly Secretariat, MLA’s Hostel etc, I am sure the party would not have showered heaps of praises to CM (as carried in almost all state dailies recently). In contrast to BJP central command’s demand for thorough review of all secret MOAs, review of Hydro Power and Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policies of the Central and State governments, particularly with reference to sensitive border state, crusade against corruption, nepotism etc., the state BJP’s concern for Dorjee Khandu’s stability is most unfortunate. After perusal of the news item, I am fully convinced that the party is fully being controlled by extraneous forces. The misuse of Rs 24,000 crores PM package, massive irregularities under SPA, BADP, NLCPR, PMGSY, NCF, NEC etc, without transparency, Rs 1000 crore PDS scam, Rs 68 crore SGRY scam (two PILs already pending in Supreme Cout & High Court), scam under education, health, social welfare, agriculture, horticulture, mines and minerals and so on are simply not known to BJP Arunachal Pradesh.
The magnitude of all the scams put together including off the record collection of Rs. 3 to 9 lacs per megawatt for total installed capacity of whopping 60,000 megawatts from various power developers shall simply outshine the so called the 2G Spectrum scam committed at the National Level. The revival of the Apex Bank by mortgaging future interest instead of going for CBI inquiry and strict recovery drive, PRC mess, absolute anarchy in Tirap and Changlang, absolute regional and ethnic imbalance in distribution of funds etc. are some major achievements of the Government. A glance through CAG report 2009 shall convince the BJP (A.P.) as to how it should behave as an alternative party to Congress.
The BJP also don’t seem to have correct knowledge as to how could other neighbouring states like Assam and Manipur which got more budgetary allocation than the most sensitive and most backward state like Arunachal Pradesh. The so called hike in wages of the working class is also not in tandem with moral and legal provisions as well as the sky rocketing price rise index of the market situation. While the Legislators have increased their salary and other benefits by more than hundred percent, the poor villagers in villages and the educated unemployed youths with no political backups in towns and cities have no option but to curse the system. BJP choosing ignorant of this fact and rather praising the CM for such unethical and undemocratic acts all in the name of Public mandate is simply unacceptable even to hardcore Congressmen. Is BJP therefore preparing grounds for merger into Dorjee led faction of the ruling INC? The People of the state has right to know without resorting to provisions of RTI Act 2005
